What this checks — and what it doesn't
A valid result means the address is well-formed and the domain can receive mail. It does not prove the specific mailbox exists. Catch-all domains will pass the MX check even for nonexistent addresses. SMTP probing isn't possible from this backend and risks IP blacklisting anyway. The trap flag uses a heuristic blocklist of publicly known honeypot domains — real spam-trap detection requires a paid validator.
